Find a Doctor Tool

After a thorough audit of the Dignity Health’s enterprise site, we found an opportunity to optimize the existing Find a Doctor tool experience. Our goal was to deliver an effective search tool that would support our primary user’s mission to find a primary care physician or specialist nearby, offer intelligent features that guide the user, and diminish any friction in the experience for ease of use.
We began by identifying user personas who use our Find a Doctor tool and took stock of pain points in the existing experience. We did a competitive analysis with our direct competitors. We brainstormed new features that would align with key decision making needs, such as do they take my insurance, take on new patients, and are within 25 miles of my location. We built user flows, wireframes, and visual designs and brought our ideas together to launch an MVP product. In addition to working directly with Dignity Health’s engineering partner, we provided the Dignity Health team and engineers extremely detailed UX/UI specifications streamline our workflow.

Health Matters is an Dignity Health initiative to offer valuable information about general wellness, specialty care, practicing care and the power of compassion to patients around the world. I created a newsletter design template that would highlight their Health Matter articles, as well as cross promote their other campaign initiatives that emphasize the importance of compassionate care.

I worked with the folks at Dignity Health improve the overall quality of the Online Waiting Room experience. We simplified the search tool and offered users default search results based on their location. We added easy one-click appointment bookings that integrates with Dignity Health’s InQuicker software. We added visual imagery and educational information that would help users to self-identify which facility is best suited for their medical needs. We upgraded our experience to be mobile responsive. Additionally, we created consistent and strategic campaign messaging across key touch points throughout the enterprise site to market our product launch.

Among Mad People
Techie by day, hip hop dancer by night. Dancing has always been a passion of mine since I was 15 years old.
Finding a rehearsal space is difficult, so I created a platform for artists to list their studio space for rent. Artists from a wide spectrum of creative disciplines (i.e. dancers, painters, photographers, sound engineers) can find art studios for rent to facilitate their creative process. Concourse was featured on Product Hunt and in Adobe Typekit’s first commercial introducing Typekit Marketplace.
I bartered my way to develop this site (See TodayTomorrow). In doing so, I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge on how to build an MVP product without funding and without being backed by a PR firm. It’s been a hell of a ride so far and an amazing opportunity for me to grow as a designer, leader in my field, and an entrepreneur.
This is a on-going project and I am writing about my process and the what I discovered along the way.

TodayTomorrow
Polymer Mallard
Creative technologist, Matt Kenefick, from Polymer Mallard is changing the way we meet up with our friends. Spend less time planning and more time hanging out. Unlike a planning app, TodayTomorrow only allows you to post events for today and tomorrow. You can casually find out what your friends are up and spontaneously latch on to plans as you like. TodayTomorrow was a special project for me because it was the catalyst to launching Concourse.co, a platform for artists. Matt wanted to create an app and I wanted to build a site. We decided to barter services to get these projects up and running. We were able to launch both projects within a couple months. Win, Win.

Airbnb Guest Onboarding
Holografik
Airbnb is known for creating a trusted online community marketplace for travelers to discover and book unique accommodations around the world. Airbnb is dedicated to building the best host and guest user interaction model. Airbnb hired us to sift through the guest onboarding flow and explore designs that would improve the host’s experience. A host’s experience would greatly improve if we prompt guests to divulge more information about themselves. We explored several different interaction models in the sign in, sign up, and request to book flows. These designs were then sent over for A/B testing.

Ebay Digital Comics
Punchcut
Punchcut’s creatives had developed concept designs for Ebay’s Digital Comic ecommerce website. With Punchcut’s designs, I created adaptive and responsive design templates. This product was designed to consider the desktop, ipad, iphone 5, and iphone 4. With each mobile and tablet design, I considered landscape and portrait use cases. Punchcut and I also worked together on creating technical specifications for each design template, along with documented strategies on how to easily create new content for the website without compromising the integrity of product across platforms.

Flavor Bible
Arbitrary
This project was inspired by The Flavor Bible, a wonderful culinary book written by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg. The Flavor Bible reveals the science behind ingredients, their flavors, and how ingredients are paired. As it turns out, there are only a finite amount of ingredients that can fit within a 400 page book. Arbitrary approached me to concept The Flavor Bible’s digital counterpart which could house an infinite amount of ingredients, their flavor profiles, flavor affinities, findings, and anecdotes from professional chefs. My designs facilitate the user’s primary goal, to research ingredients and related content. It also focuses on alternative exploratory components that exposes users to new content and content related to their location, time, season, and what’s currently happening in the culinary industry.
