Tim Burton at the MoMA

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) approached Big Spaceship to create an an interactive kiosk experience for the Tim Burton exhibition in New York. It would showcase a wide spectrum of Tim Burton’s artwork throughout the year, plus never before seen interviews with Burton. Techniques used in the making of this site were inspired by Tim Burton’s earlier stop motion films (read about our inspiration here).

We constructed physical 3-D model staircases with foam board and filmed stop-motion transitions that would be used to reveal biographical content about Burton’s work. (See how we did it here.)The navigational elements for the site were all hand drawn and animated frame by frame. The sum of these techniques assisted us in capturing Tim Burtons’ dark and whimsical aesthetic. I was so proud to be part of this project. I mean, BURTON! Unfortunately, this project was made when flash was cool, so this site isn’t easily accessible.
